OUTLANDER

Diana Gabaldon

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire—and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives. -Goodreads

This eight book series is one of my all time favorites!! I got started listening to this series on my aunts Audible account (thanks Aunt Alee) because my house mate Laurel was thoroughly obsessed with the Stars adaptation.

OUTLANDER

1/8

this is the book where everything starts. Claire is whisked away to Scotland by her husband Frank as a present.
She visits a mound of 'standing stones' that dump her in 1743, where she unfortunately gets mixed up between the Scottish highlanders and the English dragoons.
I really loved this book, it captivated me to get even further into the series, and listening to it on audible is almost similar to watching it on Stars! The lady reading it sounds just like the actress who plays Claire.
I will say, I was a big fan of Claire from the start, but not Jamie. There is a scene that bugs my inner insecurities, but I do realize it was a thing of the time.

DRAGONFLY IN AMBER

2/8

Dragonfly in Amber picks up where Outlander left off, as all good sequels should!
I loved this book because it brings in a heartily dosage of Claire and Jamie's Daughter Brianna. Claire had gone back to her original time, pregnant, and her first husband decided to help raise the baby as his own.
Brianna and her mother Claire return to Scotland in search of answers for Claire, to see what happened to her beloved Jaime.
In this book you get to see what Claire's life is like without Jamie and how much her character has grown. You also get to see where Jamie landed and what sort of lengths he's gone to remain himself.

VOYAGER

3/8

Spoilers ahead!

Claire goes back! Leaving Brianna everything, and returning to Jamie after learning that he does not die in the battle of Culloden. Jamie and Claire reunite and rekindle their flame sharing with each other what they did to keep busy in the 20 years of being apart.

As the title may imply, they do embark on many, many voyages.

They re-encounter some of the characters from previous books (Laoghaire, Geillis, and many more!) most causing problems rather than helping.

I really liked the adventure in this book, but often got second hand anxiety from the seemingly unmanageable  problems Claire faced, like getting separated from Jamie on an Island mid-voyage!

I know they are supposed to be soul mates that will always come back to each other, but it seemed too hard for me to conceive them finding each other again.

DRUMS OF AUTUMN

4/8

Holy Shit, this book.
This book made me mad, made me sad and made me extremely happy.
After watching the smallest snippet from the TV show where Bree meets her 'Da' I was very anxious to hear it read through Audible.
In this book though, many things happen that create an all new story arch. Bree has a baby of her own after being reunited with her blood father and her mother. Roger goes through the stones to find Brianna and holy cow do things change. I cannot wait to listen to the next book.

THE FIERY CROSS

5/8

I just finished this book, it was amazing!!
Brianna and Roger are now living on Fraser's Ridge with Jamie and Claire, as the settlement grows along with their little boy Jemmy.
A super cute adventure about navigating the troubles of early america from the original peoples to other unruly settlers.
My favorite part? Brianna shoots Steven Bonnet - Finally!
They also learn in this book that Jemmy can travel through the stones too, just like both of his parents. It was previously unclear if Roger really was Jem's father, but it seems more clear now that they know that 1. he can't roll his tongue and 2. he can hear the stones talking.
